FL Grotesk

This typeface is a further development of Atelier Grotesk, a custom typeface for the AFF Gallerie in Berlin. With its horizontal and vertical terminals, it has a calmer appearance and a more even grayness in longer paragraphs. Short ascenders and descenders make the typeface particularly well-suited for large font sizes, such as in headlines or on posters.

Morrison’s work has been praised for “emphasizing the value of the essential and the importance of the ordinary.” Writing for Domus magazine, the Milanese curator Maria Cristina Didero said that “Morrison has always had an aversion to design ego. His work does not shout, does not seek spectacle, does not aim to dazzle.” He has designed products and furniture for many manufacturers and brands such as Alessi, Alias, Cappellini, Emeco, Flos [it], FSB [de], Hermès, Ideal Standard, Magis [it], Issey Miyake, Olivetti, Puiforcat [fr], Rosenthal, Samsung, Sony, Üstra, and Vitra. Morrison is the lead designer at boutique Swiss consumer technology company Punkt., known for its minimalist MP01 and MP02 mobile phones. Morrison curated the Super Normal exhibition with Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa in 2006, which presented 200 ordinary or anonymously designed products that were devoid of gimmicks and branding.

Morrisons Design ist geprägt durch eine reduzierte und zugleich elegante Gestaltgebung. Gemeinsam mit dem japanischen Designer Naoto Fukasawa hat er eine Ausstellung konzipiert und ein Buch verfasst, in denen er sich mit dem „Super-Normalen“ beschäftigt, einer Form des Designs von Alltagsgegenständen, das sich durch subtile Verbesserungen klassischer Typen auszeichnet, bei dem der Designer nicht jedoch unbedingt erkennbar ist. Auf dem Gelände seines Londoner Studios setzt Morrison dieses Konzept fort, wenn er in einem diskreten Verkaufsraum eigene Designs und gleichsam namenlose Objekte aus aller Welt nebeneinander stellt, also bewusst auf das Herausstellen seiner eigenen Entwürfe verzichtet. [2] „Die Qualität von Design solle sich weniger durch ihre Form als vielmehr durch den Gebrauch vermitteln.“ [3] Morrison steht in der Tradition der Designauffassung von Dieter Rams oder Max Bill.
